World food day 2022

21/Nov/2022

On this occasion of world food day 2022, we should take this opportunity to highlight the ongoing food crises in India, as well as around the globe. India is the world's second most populous country, with a large population that cannot easily access food. India is the third largest producer of food in the world. Millions of Indians die every year due to problems like malnutrition in our country. India being an agricultural-based land faces problems like faulty or Unequal distribution of food all around the country. While India has enough food, it lacks an effective distribution mechanism for getting it to needy people. Distribution is normally through the markets, but these are not accessible to all. Crops are bought from the farmers at low prices and are sold at a much higher rate in the markets. Countless farmers commit suicide every day due to a lack of food and money. Many poor people are not able to afford available food items in the market. Due to inflation, there is a huge increase in the prices of goods in India. The lack of a clear interface between producers and consumers has made it difficult for the poorest to receive sufficient quantities of food at affordable prices. Food security is the single most important issue for our country and the only way to tackle it is by ensuring that one-third of our population gets adequate and nutritious food at home. To face the challenge of food insecurity, India needs a sustainable and effective mechanism to distribute food to all its eligible households. The Lack of such a mechanism has led to under distribution of subsidized commodities in the country. Our government should take this matter seriously and should come up with a long-term national food policy.
